Osinbajo meets Ebonyi, C-River, A-Ibom govs over bloody clashes


Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, met with governors of Ebonyi, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states to resolve their boundary disputes.

Some border communities in the three states had clashed in recent times, resulting in the death of over 20 persons.
When they left the meeting, which reviewed updates on boundary demarcation issues held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the governors, Dave Umahi (Ebonyi); Ben Ayade (Cross River) and Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom) accompanied by some officials of the National Boundary Commission, NBC, led by the Director-General, Dr. Muhammad Ahmad and some traditional rulers, wore gloomy faces.
Also, Presidency officials prevented journalists from speaking to the governors.

The boundary disputes which were mainly between people of Oku Iboku in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom and those of Ikot Offiong in Odukpani Local Government Area, in Cross River State, has claimed over 20 lives.

Similarly, the boundary dispute between the people of Azuofia Idda and Ohene in Ebonyi and Cross River states to which Ebonyi State governor had called for the intervention of the Federal Government has also claimed many lives.
