These are two cities agitating against marginalization
and seeking political appointments from the Delta State Government.
Both publications appeared in the vanguard newspaper of July 26, 2019 on
pages 20 and 36 respectively. The former i.e. the Egbema Kingdom of
Warri North, enumerated how they have over the years been kept in the
cooler by successive Governments while their kindred were being showered
with political appointments. They concluded their agitation by
appealing to Government to look in their direction.
The latter i.e. the
Oghareki, also enumerated how they too have been neglected over the
years but will not stop at that. They opt to witch haunt, malign, accuse
and even threaten their brothers, their Governor and the Government of
the day. Maturity has been thrown to the dogs. They've threatened to
split the Kingdom that our great forefathers handed over to us as if it
is the responsibility of the kingdom to give out political appointments.
They are threatening to decamp to other political parties. This is
normal and acceptable since they have an axe to grind with the ruling
PDP; but they are asking the ruling PDP governor, the same person they
are accusing of lopsided appointments to grant them a kingdom of their
own. Who is the dummy here.
Do you think the Governor would want to do
that and stand accused of splitting a kingdom? My brothers in Oghareki,
there are more reasonable ways of pressing home your grievances like the
Warri North people did and you get the support and sympathy of your
fellow kingsmen. In my mind I will suggest you withdraw your threats and
source for avenues to make peace With your brothers. After all in
politics there is no permanent friends and no permanent enemies.
Governors will come and go but your brothers will be there for you for
ever and ever
